Description:
Turbocharger Air Deflector (also called an air shield or cooling air deflector)
 
Function:
It bolts to the front engine crossmember (K-frame) and captures airflow from underneath the vehicle, directing it upward toward the turbocharger and exhaust housing. Chrysler added these because the turbocharger is subjected to tremendous heat, especially after shutdown. Even a modest increase in airflow while driving helps lower the temperature of the turbo and surrounding components.
 
This wasn't an aerodynamic device—it was a thermal management device.
